Winter Park's Tipperary Creek Point to Point race—appropriately nicknamed "The King of the Rockies"—has become something of an annual tradition for the Evol Elite Racing team. With 24 miles of some of the best singletrack in the Frasier Valley, this race always makes the cut for our calendar.
XC racing is alive and well in Winter Park. The organizers rely on a friendly team of local volunteers, there's free food and beer at the finish (alas, not Upslope, but maybe someday), and the racing is competitive but fun.
The region has been getting a regular dose of afternoon storms, so last Saturday, Josh and Spencer were treated to exceptional trail conditions on Tipperary. They even found a bit of mud and some slippery roots in shady parts. The guys finished within seconds of each other, but took different approaches to get there.
Spencer started a bit slower, easing into the course's punishing first climb that reaches heights of over 10,000 feet. Josh was off the front with the leaders, holding a solid pace near the top-five. As the race wore on, Spencer pulled him back and he wound up seventh, right in front of Josh.
Similarly, at the Steamboat Stinger earlier in August, Josh and Ken rolled in together. It's hard to say how the team will stack up against the Colorado 'cross scene this fall, but it looks like we're all on a similar track!
