As 'cross season kicks into high gear, it starts to feel like we're getting pummeled by wave after wave in a fierce break on a Hawaiian beach (ask Grant about that). And we all know its nearly impossible to regularly post race reports in those conditions. Let's face it, computer technology just isn't there yet. Only the military has laptops that are that waterproof.
But we'd be remiss if we didn't recognize a couple outstanding performances in the last couple of weeks by the Evol-doers on our team!
For starters, Ken took home his first-ever elite category win at the second day of Cross of the North on October 20. The conditions could not have been worse (or better?). The muddy, technical course was starting to dry through the afternoon, and the grease turned into peanut butter. Spencer got off to a white-hot start but was slowly reeled in by a few other racers. Ken stayed smooth and steady and moved to the front of the race by two laps to go. With some expert help in the pits from his wife and in-laws, he thrived in the mud.
The next weekend at Xilinx, we faced course conditions that were polar opposite to the week before. The track was fast, tacky and flat. This turned out to be a perfect playground for Kate with her mega top-end power that's been honed on the road. She battled for second place, but ended up third, and while you can always play the "what-if" game, we were all super excited to see her earn her first 'cross podium of the 2013 season.
One quick reminder to you beer lovers: Upslope celebrates their Fifth Anniversary today (Friday) and tomorrow, Saturday. Pop a can of the good stuff to toast one of Boulder's best brewers!
