The Evol guys had a huge day at Schoolyard Cross last Saturday, going one-two-three on a fast, dry course that wended its way around the Dawson School, where Melissa is a teacher.
Right from the gun, Spencer took the holeshot on a grassy straightaway that led into the track's most technical feature, an off-camber that would have been a nightmare with some mud.
Michael hopped right on Spencer's wheel and the two rode away from the field. Behind, Josh picked his way through the top-five to slot into third midway through the race and hold on for his best result of the season.
Meanwhile, the lead duo stuck together until Michael bobbled on the off-camber with about three laps remaining, and from there, Spencer soloed away to take the win ahead of his two compatriots.
"I don't think I've ever been at a Colorado 'cross race where a team swept the podium," said Spencer. "Maybe Boulder Cycle Sport has done it, but not recently. Either way, it's really fun. I love being able to work together with a strong rider like Michael, and I think he appreciates it too, as I can help him learn some of the lines through the corners, for example.
The women's team also had a successful day, with Melissa finishing third. Kate was not far behind in fourth, and Kristin got out-sprinted for the final spot in the top-five. She ended up fifth, while Jess was 10th.
