EVOL opens the podium count at Cyclo-X in Parker

EVOL DevoElite kicked off the 2016 cyclocross season this past weekend at the Cyclo-X race in Parker. With mountain bike season finishing up and it being early September, the team wasn't at full strength, but we made our presence known on the bumpy, dusty course.

The men kicked off the racing with Devo rider Maxx Chance and Elite rider Michael Burleigh. Maxx took the hole shot and settled in on Tim Allen's wheel. After a short time Gage Hecht joined the duo and the three rode the front for 50 minutes of the one hour race. Meanwhile Michael was battling hard in the sixth spot. Gage attacked on the final lap and distanced Maxx, who had separated from Tim. Maxx rolled into a hard fought second with Michael taking sixth.

EVOL Elite riders Melissa Barker, Breeze Holicky and Kristen Peterson lined up for a fast women's race in the dust and heat. Melissa got locked in a great battle at the front with Kristen Weber and Rebecca Gross while Breeze and Kristen worked their way up from back row starts. Melissa was never quite able to close the small gap to the lead duo but took a great early season podium. Kristen and Breeze rode through the field to finish in seventh and 13th, respectively. A great points grab for the women early in the season.

This weekend the team is lining up at Cyclo X Valmont on Saturday and Primalpalooza on Sunday here in Colorado. Maxx is heading out to Pennsylvania to race the two-day UCI Nittany Lion Cross.
