Boulder is a cycling town. Yeah, I know, that's basically as obvious as remarking that Green Bay, Wisconsin is usually busy watching a local pro football team on Sundays. It's one thing to say it, but to understand it, it must be experienced. Our team is still pretty new, and probably only a fraction of the spectators at Valmont Bike Park at Sunday's Boulder Cup recognized our red-striped kit, but it sure as Hell felt like we were riding for the home team. The electricity of the deafening crowd on the 5280' stairs was powerful, the random dudes screaming their heads off at the backside of the course in the mudpit were hilarious--from one end of the course to the other, it was clear that cyclocross had arrived in Boulder, and people were loving it.
As for the P2P guys, we rose to the occasion and braved some muddy conditions on both days to ride some of our best races to date. Spencer and Scott both finished in the top-30 on Saturday and Sunday, with Spencer earning his best-ever UCI finish of 14th on Saturday, right behind his doppelganger nemesis, Spencer Paxson. Grant also had solid races both days, although a kerfuffle with the officials on Saturday left him without an official result. Jesse was out for the weekend with foot-in-mouth disease, but he'll be back (don't ask me... I'm just relaying the details).
To all of you who came and supported us this weekend: THANK YOU. This won't be your last chance to watch world-class 'cross in Boulder.
