Ken was flying solo for the first two days, accumulating a moderate lead in the overall standings in the cat 3s with a 2nd in the time trial and a 4th in Saturday's crit, despite a number of crashes. With a tight points spread among the top-five contenders going into the queen stage on Sunday, Ken called out that Killa Threes, Josh and Spencer to help him defend the leader's jersey.
A last-minute course change made the 48 mile road race even hillier and harder. Midway through the day, a sizable breakaway went clear, and Josh was in the mix, keeping an eye on the situation. As the race rolled into its final 12 mile lap, Ken and Spencer realized that one rider in the break was a serious threat to Ken's overall standing. Fortunately, Josh had dropped back at the top of "The Wall" and was able to tow Ken up to the break so he could contest the finale. Sure enough, big man Benesh delivered with a third place right behind his primary rival, sewing up the overall title.
