The penultimate weekend of cyclocross racing saw impending doom-like conditions hanging in the foothills above Boulder this past Saturday, with a large winter storm dropping much needed snow in the alpine but leaving conditions cold, but dry at the Boulder Reservoir. Saturday's race was the final stop in the Boulder Racing Series, offering double points and bragging rights for the season beyond the Colorado Cross Cup rankings. Without Limits brought back a classic course design, leveraging the assets of the Rez to their full extent: sand sand and more sand. Dubbed mini-Koksijde by the end of the day, the course got rave reviews for its technical challenges, long stretches of soft sand and overall flow.
ProVelo Passion has a great write up and summary of the men's and women's racing action itself, but for the team it was a mixed bag. Spencer was set to defend his overall series lead but fell short after a wicked fast start. Meanwhile, Josh surged early to a great start, holding steady in the first chase group of 4 for most of the race. He fell off the pace but held on to 7th as Spencer found his legs late in the race, caught a bunch of guys and finished 6th. Scott battled hard for a top-10 but was still spinning his trip to Mexico out of his legs and finished 12th. While Spencer lost the overall title, he and Josh finished 2nd and 3rd overall in the series, a solid accomplishment and testament to consistent performance through the 5-race series.
On the women's side, Breeze and Jess raced super hard through the sandy course with some great results, building their skills and fitness through the season. Breeze was able to secure her spot on the podium with a 5th place in the series overall.
The Colorado season wraps up in a big way this Saturday and Sunday for State Championships. It's been a phenomenal season for our team and we're grateful for the success and the support from our sponsors. We'll be celebrating win, lose or draw on Sunday at Upslope Brewery, with beers and Evol burritos starting at 6pm - come join us!
Great summary! Hope you don't mind me saying -- do you mean "the week"?
