Though Chris Baddick is often our rival on the course, he's a friend when numbers aren't pinned on. So, on his road trip to Missoula with Keith, he decided to guest blog a dramatic and not-entirely-serious account of their arrival in Montana to set the mood for tomorrow's races

Wispy clouds hung low over the imposing mountains when Keith arrived in Missoula. The university town was empty for the summer, and Keith cruised slowly through the city streets on his Specialized Stumpjumper. He was hungry. The twelve hour drive from Boulder had given him time to think; the steady rain kept falling, and as Keith stopped to check Instagram, he realized that all he really wanted was an EVOL burrito. He decided he couldn't live anywhere that didn't have flavorful, convenient wraps of Mexican inspired goodness. An Upslope beer to wash it down would also provide the perfect combination of carbohydrates and refreshment.
With the racing not happening until Saturday, Keith had time to find himself. He stared up at the mountain from his bike's familiar cockpit. He felt lean and powerful in the tight, pink uniform of the EVOL racing team. The misty rain clung to his sun bleached blond curls. A stray lock of hair descended from his helmet towards his dreamy blue eyes. He slowly swiped it away as the realization hit him—he would be racing the fastest mountain bikers in most of the US this weekend.
He began pedaling up the steep, loose gravel road towards the race course. He reached into his jersey pocket and found a Breeze Bar. The perfect gluten-free sustenance for an athlete in peak physical condition. He wished his friends could see him now. He felt strong.
The racing happens this coming Saturday. Stay tuned to hear how Keith holds up against the strongest pros in the country, or watch the live feed on VeloNews.com.
