Having moved to the Valmont Bike Park last year, the Cup is the highlight of the 'cross season in Colorado, and not only did the team deliver, but so did the fans, the production crew at DBC Events and Pete Webber who came up with a fantastic new course design, and also the weather, serving up enough moisture to create a soft course with just a few splashes of mud.
On the women's side, Breeze took a well earned 5th spot in the 3s race, far too early in the morning when the course was frost and full of mud.
Following a rough day in the saddle, Jesse Goodrich clawed his way up through the field for redemption and hung in for a huge 17th finish amongst many of the country's best UCI riders.
Trying to improve upon his best Colorado UCI finish to date, Josh Whitney stormed the field from a mid-pack start and picked off riders consistently throughout the race, getting faster and faster as the day unfolded. He caught all of his season-long nemeses and finished 26th, followed closely behind by teammate Scott Tietzel. And after some questionable pre-race nutrition, Grant applied a wee bit too much pressure on the huge berms around the course and rolled a tire, but made up for the luck with a strong display on the 5280 stairs to the roar of the 5 person deep crowds.
Racing at the sharp end was equally exciting, with local Danny Summerhill being edged out by half a wheel by the big man Ryan Trebon for the top spot on the podium.
