The good folks at Mountain Flyer did a great job of reporting out the first ever Urban CX race along the Front Range back in November. After the epic-ness of snow, wind, ice and mud at Sienna Lake, temps remained below freezing but the sun came out to make for a bright complement to the urban blighted areas the race passed through, in the RINO district of Denver. Josh took 2nd place on the day in a heated battle with mountain bike hall of famer and Olympian Travis Brown.
Eddie Clark recounts the day:
It was a time of firsts for this sleeper of a cross race which featured
cross
racing in urban Denver for the first time, and more importantly it was
the first ever cyclocross race to feature an adaptive category dedicated
to our
veterans. Unlike most races this course was located right in the middle
of Denver's River North Art District, and for everyone that showed up a
good time was had. Event sponsors Primal Racing and Lagunitas Brewery
also did their parts to make it a success.
With the USGP race in Kentucky, much of the pro fields were
significantly smaller than usual, but even still the
course was plenty challenging for those that showed up. Tim Allen got
away early to win the men's open race with a long solo ride, and second
place was battled out between Josh Whitney and Travis Brown with Whitney
just edging out Brown for second. Kristal Boni and Lisa Hudson rode
wheel to wheel in the first two laps of the women's open race until Boni
went on the attack to take a solo victory. Hudson held on to second
place, and Amber Rydholm took third.
